This is part of a research project where I am collecting peoples' understandings of science.
These puzzles are designed to get you to apply what you know about science to particular puzzling situations. I want to know how people use their common-sense knowledge as well as their scientific knowledge to explain how the world works.
While I am interested in the 'right' answer, I am most interested in your answers to these puzzles, even if they are incomplete, uncertain, or "not scientific".
